Got a big family that’s coming to lunch? Feeding an army can be a big endeavour, and an expensive one once you lash out on the turkey, the ham, the prawns, the wine, the champagne, desserts, appetisers and whatever else is gracing the table. Change it up by doing Christmas potluck style – have each guest bring a dish or a component of the meal. Not only will you reduce your personal financial burden, people will feel more involved in a meal that they’ve contributed to. You’ll also see a broader range of dishes as everyone has their own unique favourites.
Spending time with friends, near and far
Christmas is always a time for togetherness, and if you’re hoping to do some travelling to spend time with the important people in your life, it can be expensive. December through January is peak travel season in most of the world, so try and find ways to minimise your bills such as by starting or ending your travel a little bit outside this period. You can still have the same celebration with the same people, just at a time when it’s more affordable for everyone involved to be there.
